At Catalyst, we strongly believe that improvement projects need to be sponsored and championed. The Champion has a number of key responsibilities that ultimately play a significant factor in the success or otherwise of improvement projects.

In addition to selecting the project and the improvement team, the Champion needs to:

  • Provide strategic direction for the project team
  • Develop and agree the Project Charter and scope
  • Take an active role in the review steps
  • Help the team overcome roadblocks
  • Facilitate the identification of resources for the team as needed

There’s more, of course, and there are plenty of challenges to be aware of, too.

Typically run as either a one or two-day programme, the aim is to engage the managers involved, informing them about Lean Six Sigma and fully-equipping them to undertake their key role as Champions.

The content is supported by our Champion’s Guide book which complements The Lean Six Sigma Improvement Journey book, part of the training materials provided to the ‘Belts’.

Whilst the explicit focus is on the enabling and governing role of the Champion, the broad level of the additional content is that of Yellow Belt.
