Advanced Black Belt Tools
The final statistical tools module of Lean Six Sigma Black Belt training, this course teaches advanced tools used to understand the factors that drive process performance.
Advanced Black Belt Tools builds on previous statistical methods training and uses Minitab throughout. Participants develop the confidence to apply sophisticated analytical techniques, interpret results and support others in the use of Black Belt-level statistical tools.
Introduction
The three-day course builds on the statistical toolset covered in earlier modules, introducing advanced techniques that enable delegates to identify and understand the factors, interactions and patterns that influence process performance. Topics include advanced ANOVA, General Linear Model, advanced regression, logistic regression, Design of Experiments, time-weighted control charts and time series analysis.
This highly practical training helps delegates apply advanced statistical methods to real business problems with greater confidence and rigour.
Participants will be able to:
- Use advanced statistical tools to analyse challenging business problems at Black Belt level
- Apply advanced ANOVA and General Linear Model techniques to understand multiple factors, interactions and covariates
- Build, validate and improve regression models using continuous and discrete inputs
- Use logistic regression for binary, multiple binary and ordinal outcomes
- Apply non-parametric hypothesis tests and data transformation techniques where appropriate
- Plan, design and analyse full factorial and fractional factorial experiments
- Use time-weighted control charts to detect small process shifts quickly
- Model long-term seasonal patterns and trends using time series techniques
- Interpret Minitab outputs confidently and use statistical evidence to support decisions
- Support others in the appropriate use of statistical tools

Why choose this programme?
This course completes the statistical capability expected of a Lean Six Sigma Black Belt. It revisits tools from earlier modules, reinforcing confidence, while adding the advanced methods needed for the most demanding analysis. The programme is BQF accredited, carries 36 CPD points, and is delivered by experienced Master Black Belt instructors. Follow-on routes include Black Belt Certification, Design for Lean Six Sigma and Master Black Belt.Â
Delivery Information / Options
The programme is available as a Virtual Open Classroom or can be delivered in-company. It is also available as a self-study course.
The Virtual Open Classroom is delivered live over Zoom across three consecutive days by experienced Master Black Belt instructors. The sessions are engaging, participative and practical, supported by comprehensive training materials and access to online learning resources.
Course Details:
-
The course begins by extending delegates’ understanding of advanced ANOVA and the General Linear Model, including ANOVA with two or more factors, main effects and interactions, covariates, model building and model validation.
-
Delegates revisit and deepen their understanding of hypothesis testing, including transforming data for robustness, one-sided tests, one-sample tests and non-parametric hypothesis tests.
-
The programme covers regression models with continuous and discrete inputs, transforming data to improve model performance, and an introduction to stepwise and best subsets regression. Delegates also explore single, multiple binary and ordinal logistic regression.
-
Delegates learn how to plan, design and analyse full factorial and fractional factorial experiments, including blocking, randomising, replication and practical considerations. They also learn how to analyse experiment outputs, reduce models and use final models for predictions and optimisation.
-
The course concludes with time-weighted control charts for detecting small shifts quickly, alongside techniques for modelling long-term seasonal patterns and trends.
-
Delegates should have a high level of competence with Minitab and statistical tools, equivalent to completing Data Driven Insights and Decisions and Further Process Measurement and Analysis Techniques, or equivalent prior training. Previous knowledge of hypothesis testing and regression is required.
