Data Driven Insights and Decisions (DDID)
A four-day hands-on programme to measure, analyse and communicate process performance with confidence.
Using data correctly and confidently is an essential skill in today’s organisations. This programme gives you a comprehensive, practical toolset to turn data into genuine business insight, influence stakeholders and drive sound decisions. You will learn to select the right measures, trust your data, and analyse process behaviour with clarity and confidence.
Introduction
Data Driven Insights and Decisions is a British Quality Foundation and Lean Competency System accredited programme for anyone who wants to understand their business processes through data. It builds a working knowledge of graphical and statistical techniques, from selecting and defining measures through to control charts, hypothesis testing and regression. The course fulfils the data needs of improvement and transformation professionals. It is a component of both the Business Black Belt and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt programmes. Although most participants have completed Green Belt training, this is not a prerequisite, the tools are applicable in any business context. 12 months’ access to CatStat AI enabled software is included. Please contact us if you prefer the Minitab version of this course.
Participants will be able to:
- Select and operationally define the right measures for a process
- Validate and improve the measurement process so data can be trusted
- Plan data collection using appropriate sampling and sample size approaches
- Turn data into information using statistics and graphical analysis
- Use control charts to visualise and understand process behaviour
- Assess process capability and use capability indices
- Analyse data using hypothesis testing and regression analysis
- Communicate findings to influence key stakeholders and senior leaders

Why practitioners choose this programme
The ability to use data correctly to gain insight, influence stakeholders and guide decisions is increasingly central to improvement and transformation roles. This BQF and LCS accredited programme delivers that capability through a robust, practical approach that sharpens your thinking and promotes real process learning. Worth 32 CPD points, it gives you the techniques and the confidence to influence senior leaders with data.
You do not need to invest in statistical software as we bundle 12 months’ access to our CatStat product with this training for no extra charge.
Delivery Information / Options
The programme is delivered as a virtual open classroom over two, two-day sessions, live over Zoom with experienced Master Black Belt instructors and a range of engaging, participative techniques. It is also available as bespoke in-company training. The course is normally delivered using CatStat software (12 months’ access included). A Minitab version is also available (Minitab software required).
Available as a standalone module or as part of a certification pathway to Lean Six Sigma Black Belt or Business Black Belt.
Course Details:
-
The programme opens with graphical analysis, building data visualisation skills using histograms, Pareto charts, scatter diagrams and time series plots using CatStat. You’ll then learn to identify the right Y and X measures, specify continuous, proportion and count data types, and link measures to critical-to-quality requirements.
-
Before analysing data you must be able to trust it. This stage covers operational definitions as the critical first step in assuring data quality, supported by standard operating procedures for measuring. You’ll also learn the measurement system analysis approach for discrete data – Attribute Agreement Analysis.
-
Next you’ll plan how data is gathered, exploring representative sampling, systematic and subgroup approaches, and sample size calculations for a desired margin of error. You then move into process control charts for individual, subgrouped and attribute data, learning the tests for special causes through worked case studies.
-
You will assess process capability using Cp and Cpk indices, then apply hypothesis testing across continuous and attribute data with one, two or more groups, covering t-tests, ANOVA, proportions and chi-square tests, and Type 1 and 2 errors.
-
The final stage covers regression analysis with continuous data including residuals analysis and prediction models.
Open Training
Purchase includes 12 months access to Catalyst’s Business Improvement Zone for materials and slides.
