Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt Certification

A personalised, assessment-based programme designed to take experienced Black Belts to the highest level of Lean Six Sigma certification.

Master Black Belt is the British Quality Foundation’s ultimate level of Lean Six Sigma certification. This bespoke programme bridges the gap between your current Black Belt capability and the expertise required to lead, coach and shape continuous improvement at scale.

Introduction

Lean Six Sigma Master Black Belt certification recognises the skills needed to operate at the highest level. An initial assessment identifies the gaps between a candidate’s current skills and experience and those required for British Quality Foundation certification, and we’ll provide a tailored development pathway recommended to address them. Because it reflects each individual’s business needs and personal preferences, the programme followed is unique to every candidate.

Master Black Belts meeting BQF certification requirements are able to:

  • Lead large-scale DMAIC projects encompassing multiple Black Belt and Green Belt sub-projects
  • Act as a go-to technical resource for data analysis and workshop facilitation
  • Apply advanced Lean Six Sigma tools and change-management expertise to challenging problems
  • Coach Green and Black Belts to maximise their project delivery and learning
  • Support and build the effectiveness of Project Champions
  • Develop and deliver Lean Six Sigma training across the organisation
  • Support and influence business leaders towards a continuous improvement culture

Delivery Information / Options

This is a bespoke, capability-based programme rather than a fixed course. An initial gap assessment shapes a personalised pathway, with candidates joining relevant Catalyst and BQF training modules to build the required expertise. Each route is tailored to individual needs and experience.

Course Overview

A personalised development pathway: As experienced, certified Black Belts, candidates focus on closing specific capability gaps identified through an initial assessment. Their programme is tailored to individual needs and preferences, combining targeted learning with practical application.

Demonstrating proficiency: Certification requires evidence of Master Black Belt level proficiency. Candidates compile an evidence folder and summary report covering training and coaching they have led, their application of Lean Six Sigma tools to challenging problems, improvement programmes they have owned, workshops facilitated, and how they have demonstrated continuous improvement leadership and thought leadership, and have influenced change. This typically includes at least six project storyboards and critiques.

Assessment and examination: Candidates present and discuss their experience with an assessor panel over approximately half a day. This is complemented by a two-hour open-book exam assessing proficiency in advanced methods, including statistical analysis using statistical software and interpretation of results.
