Ian is an expert in continuous improvement. He has worked in this field since 2002, where he studied Lean at MIT and applied the knowledge to the transformation of a Valve manufacturing company in Denver, Colorado, moving from batch production to single piece flow and pull systems, dramatically improving quality and reducing lead times of their products.
Ian has worked for various companies from his apprenticeship in Toolmaking to senior management positions across the world in diverse industries such as automotive (UK, Germany, USA), power generation (UK, USA), Bio-pharmaceutical, (UK, USA) Marine Engines (UK, Germany), Construction (UK/Ireland), Chemical (UK, Italy), Food & Drink (UK/Netherlands) & Medical Devices (UK, Germany).
Ian is, at heart, a hands-on Lean Sensei, preferring to coach and train people in the “Gemba” (real place) and deliver a blended approach to learning and problem solving.
He also holds a lean six sigma master black belt, managing complex projects (including PMBOK/Prince 2 Methodologies), leading the Program Management Office & training Green & Black Belts.
Ian is a member of the IMECHE and holds a bachelor’s degree in Product Design & Manufacturing from Loughborough University.
